“I'm still trying to understand what happened, but it's an incredible achievement. I was hoping for promotion, but not in this way,” Inzaghi said.
Pisa had not played in Serie A for 30 years.
Inzaghi said, “I had wanted to join Pisa for a few years, many people advised against it, but I felt it was the right decision. I knew the club was well-organized and would help us perform at our best.
“Promotion was a surprise, I was thinking about the playoffs, but that would have been a big risk. I'm happy it happened this way, even though we lost in Bari, we created an amazing story.”
Inzaghi also confirmed that he will stay with Pisa to lead the team in Serie A next season.
He said, “The people of Pisa have given me a lot since the start. I wanted to repay them with promotion, because their support has been overwhelming.
“Seeing seven thousand fans cheering us on in the match against Sassuolo was amazing, then on Sunday evening, our historic stadium was filled with fans, and the streets were flooded with people. It was an unforgettable experience.
“Passion makes a difference, I believe that people who love football understand how much I care about my work and the sacrifices I make to make it successful. I care about all the fans of the teams I coach.”
