Brighton's technical director, David Weir, has left the club, according to recent announcements.
The departure of Weir has led to speculation that Ayto will take on a new role at Falmer stadium, serving as a direct replacement.
Ayto previously worked alongside Edu at Arsenal, taking over as technical director on a temporary basis after Edu left the club.
Ayto's move away from Arsenal followed the arrival of new technical director Andrea Berta, and he is now set to join Brighton.
