There have been many reports linking Wissa with a move to another team, particularly Newcastle, this summer. However, Brentford has shown reluctance to sell another key player during this transfer period.
Andrews, who took over as manager from Thomas Frank earlier in the summer, explained that Wissa is not fully prepared to play in the opening game due to a disrupted pre-season and high interest in his services.
During a press conference ahead of the game, Andrews stated, “I have made a decision that he is not available. It has been a very disrupted pre-season and the interest in Yoane is very clear.
“As head coach, I want Yoane to be in the building and be a part of the first team and the squad. But I am very understanding of his situation.
“I have a very good relationship with him and that will persist. But we have to focus on the players who are ready.”
