Although they created some early chances, none of them came from open play. Two set pieces led to opportunities, but Donyell Malen was unable to score from one, and Ezri Konsa's header was saved by Martin Dubravka.

It was only a matter of time before Villa broke through, and they did so in the first half. A simple pass from Boubacar Kamara found Malen, who scored with a relatively easy opportunity.

Burnley's best chance in the first half came 35 minutes in, when Josh Cullen's half-volley forced a save from Emiliano Martinez, and Jaidon Anthony's cross-shot hit the crossbar in the resulting corner.

The main issue for Burnley was their inability to tighten up their defense, which was exposed once again when a simple pass split the defense and Malen was free to score, but Maxime Esteve blocked the shot just before halftime.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Villa dominating possession and creating chances. They almost scored their second goal within 10 minutes of the restart, when a ball caused chaos in the Burnley defense and Dubravka denied Morgan Rogers from close range.

Villa finally scored their second goal when Rogers found Malen, who scored with a well-placed shot into the far corner.

Burnley found a way back into the game with a set-piece goal, when Lesley Ugochukwu headed in Quilindschy Hartman's corner, but Villa were unable to add to their lead and saw their winless streak stretch to five games.

Villa seem to have turned a corner with four wins in a row, and the international break will come at an inopportune time for them.
