The pressure eventually paid off in the 38th minute, when Declan Rice scored the first goal of the game. Rice, a former West Ham player, was quick to react after Areola parried Eberechi Eze's shot back into the danger area.
Rice's goal gave Arsenal a lead at halftime, but they failed to add to their advantage in the second half, despite creating several scoring opportunities. It wasn't until added time that Saka scored his second goal of the game, securing his 100th Premier League goal contribution.
The win provisionally moves Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table, pending the outcome of Liverpool's match against Chelsea later in the day.
For West Ham, the loss extends their winless streak under manager Nuno Espírito Santo, but the team remains in the bottom three of the league.
